Re: Texas Faggott - Kininigin
Thu, May 15, 2008 - 9:41 PMhaha great review.
sometimes I wonder if psytrance didn't actually die and everyone stopped making it in the early part of this decade but its still being made in another dimension by guys like Texas Faggot. Then every few years something gets fucked up in the universe and these cds cross over into our dimension. -

Re: Texas Faggott - Kininigin
Thu, May 15, 2008 - 9:44 PMalso just to add this is their most straight up psy release to date structure wise. Just as fucking crazy as all the other stuff they make but far less in the beat random "forest style". -

Sounds good. I love the colors, feelings and balls-to-the-wall psychedelia of the sunomni / Demon Tea style trance.. but sometimes it is too rough and sloppy for me. like a psychedelic children's drawing with messy coloring all outside the lines... sometimes not "professional" enough, like Darkpsy can be.
Far-out psychedelia that is less "random" sounds good.

Bret, you seem to understate things. *Some* dark psy sounds like sounds like it was produced by the crack smoking vegan that lives down the block, from me

Re: Texas Faggott - Kininigin
Sat, May 17, 2008 - 6:05 AMI meant to say "a lot of darkpsy is lo-fi and sloppy" and so is "forest muisc" _ I crave a more polished and structured sound..... that is still psychedelic. That's why this album sounded interesting. -

Re: Texas Faggott - Kininigin
Sun, May 18, 2008 - 5:34 AMI'm really not much of a fan of the forest style or Demon Tea. I think alot of that sound was inspired by early Texas Faggot anyway, I'm really not that into the first albums either.
I think that review is a bit misleading as far as dark psy goes. There really is nothing dark psy about Texas Faggot to me. If anything they have a more old school sound since they actually use melodies and song structure.
This album is great, hopefully they get a wider following with this as it just has less "disco music for a mental asylum" type tracks that previous albums.
I don't think they can ever top Paramoncler from the last album. Thats probly one of the best psy tracks I've ever heard.
this is also the best interview ever with a psy artist...:)

39) When and where was your best party and why was it the best ?
Tim: It wasn't.
Pentti: It was like when I was 5 or 6 I drank like 6 cokes in one birthday party and had a huge amount of cake. And almost shitted in my pants.
Tim: Wow, that's trippy.
Pentti: Yes, it was a killer party.
Tim: But then you didn't shit after all.
Pentti: No, I ran home. It was like a question of seconds.
Tim: I redefine my answer. The best party is next party.
40) What was your worst party then ?
Pentti: It was the same one. It was so fun when I ate, but my stomach didn't like it, so it was also the worst party. When I was 6 at a classmates birthday. Still having dreams...
Tim: The worst party was the first one. -

Here is an excerpt from the review:
'Texas Faggott are not evil, they are not dark, but their music is harder, stronger, more twisted, more chunky, more funky and more expressive than anything those Evil Punters ever produce.'
While I respect your opinion that you do not find this album dark, I also feel that the album isn't "dark" in the traditional sense, but contains within more power and intensity than what constitutes more dark psytrance. I think it is a completely different dimension of music. It's not Kindzaza (sp?) or anything like that, but I never labeled it as such either.
And Demon Tea has a huge musical scope that is nothing like Texas Faggott.
Nam Shub of Enki
James Reipas
Mantaray
Exotic Matter
Odd Harmonic
None of that sounds like Texas Faggott in any capacity. -

Re: Texas Faggott - Kininigin
Mon, May 19, 2008 - 10:43 AMsorry, i do totally agree with you and understood the point you were trying to make. At some level though I think it would just be best to stop using the word "dark" to describe psytrance. It quickly leads to the concept of "darker", which quickly leads to off the shelf cheesy methods of making things darker like satanic imagery, rape and murder. Then we are quickly back to the mindless absurdity of "darkpsy". -

This is the maximum depth. Additional responses will not be threaded.
Re: Texas Faggott - Kininigin
Mon, May 19, 2008 - 11:27 AMTotally.
That is actually why I keep using it.
I think the definition people attribute to the word dark is not as accurate as it could be.
So I use it in the way I think fits. Which causes confusion, but sometimes it is good to break out of a mold.

Re: Texas Faggott - Kininigin
Mon, May 19, 2008 - 11:44 AMWhen I first started listening to trance, one of the first albums that I heard, that I described as dark, was Vacuum Tube, by Organic Noise. For me, Dark psy was always something more mechanical sounding, and inorganic -
